Immediate Dentures

An immediate denture is a type of dental prosthesis that is placed right after the extraction of the natural teeth. Unlike traditional dentures, which are made after the teeth are removed and the gums have healed, immediate dentures are fabricated in advance and placed immediately after extractions, providing patients with teeth during the healing process.

No Gap in Teeth

One of the main advantages of an immediate denture is that it provides instant teeth after extractions, preventing the patient from having to go without teeth during the healing process. This helps with both aesthetics and functionality, such as eating and speaking.

Quicker Adjustment to Dentures

Because the denture is placed immediately, the patient may experience an easier transition to wearing dentures since they are already accustomed to having a prosthetic in place.

Protection of Extraction Sites

The denture helps protect the exposed gum tissues and extraction sites after the teeth are removed, which can aid in healing and reduce discomfort.

Prevents Facial Changes

The immediate denture can help maintain the shape of the patient’s face, which might otherwise change due to the loss of teeth and jawbone shrinkage during the healing period.

What to Expect

Because we are making the dentures before any teeth are extracted, we won't be able to test/try in the denture beforehand. Due to this we may need to compromise on some aesthetics.

During the healing, there maybe a lot of soreness and some pain as your gums are changing. During this time we recommend to have a follow up appointment for any necessary adjustments.

As the bones heal and shrink, we will need to add a temporary liner to help stabilize and refit the denture.

When healing is complete, a new denture can be made or if you are happy with the immediate denture, the current one can be relined or rebased for a better fit.
